Youth Windsurfing Courses
We
break all our courses into 2 hour lessons and all lessons are
private to your group. These 2 hour lessons can be booked to
suit your holiday plans or work schedule.
Our session times each
day are 10am-12noon,
1-3pm or 4-6pm.
If you book 2 consecutive dinghy sailing lessons in a day then we can sail a bit
further a field and stop for the break on another beach.
Novice sailors and
are taught
in a boat accompanied by an instructor with no more than 3
students to 1 instructor. More advanced sailors may
be taught in single handed boats with a maximum of 2 students to 1
instructor. Windsurfing is taught in
warm shallow water with no more than 4 students to 1 instructor.
We offer three course levels
for adults (Learn to Sail and Levels 1 & 2) and four levels for
youth (Stages 1-4). All courses are
practically based and any theory
required is usually carried out on the water. Children can learn
alongside adults as the material covered is basically the same; youngsters will
simply receive different certificates at the end of the course. No RYA
certificates can be issued, but all training follows the RYA syllabus.
Since all of our lessons
are private we can offer tailor-made tuition either via single 2 hour
lesson or a course of lessons. This option is great if you
haven't been out on the water for a while and just want to brush up
your skills before renting a boat, or just need to spend some time in
the water to increase your confidence.
Our style of teaching is
great for all ages. We find more mature sailors really
appreciate our individual tuition which can be adapted to their
fitness and previous experience. Children also react well since
they are in a safe environment (the instructor is always onboard to
help) which helps them to relax and learn. Please see our
teaching
philosophy for more details of our methodology.
For course prices please a look at our
price
list.
The course outlines below
are just examples. Topics taught during each lesson will
depend upon the wind conditions and are adapted to the ability of
each student. Log sheets are used throughout the courses
to track each students progress.

Advanced
Sailing
Coaching Sessions |
We tend to
find that those who already have RYA Level 2 and wish to
improve their skills further have a variety of different
goals which do not necessarily match a specific course
syllabus. We therefore offer coaching sessions which can
cover a wide variety of topics and concentrate on the
specific skills you wish to learn or improve. The following
list is just an example but will give you some idea of the
things which we can do.
-
Sailing with spinnakers – asymmetric or symmetric
-
Using
the trapeze
-
Racing
– racing starts, racing rules, rounding buoys
efficiently, the upwind leg, tactics, boat tuning
-
Seamanship Skills – Sailing backwards, sailing without a
centreboard or without a rudder, recovering from total
inversion capsize, leeward and windward shores
There are
many who wish to simply improve their sailing skills. We
would take them out on the water and assess their current
level by setting a number of tasks e.g. sailing around a
triangular course, coming alongside, man overboard etc.
Once the assessment is completed we can then start to work
on those areas which need attention.
At the end
of the training we can provide a log sheet and Advanced
Sailing Certificate which indicate the topics that have been
covered and the standard that has been achieved. These are
signed by Julian who is an RYA Senior Instructor.
All of our
coaching is run as 2 hour sessions – you could have one
session in the morning and another in the afternoon or just
one per day if you want to be free to have some time to
explore the area.
