Learn to Sail

Come and Learn to Sail or improve your technique on the beautiful Mar Menor.  The water is incredibly warm and provides the perfect conditions to build confidence.  We have taught people from the ages of 6 to 76; anyone can try!

We normally teach sailing in a boat accompanied by an instructor.  Our maximum student instructor ratio is 3 to 1, though more commonly it is 2 to 1.  Most other sailing schools will teach using a student instructor ratio of 6 to 1, they achieve this by teaching people in single handed boats, often putting adults into a small dinghy like a Laser Pico which is more suited to children.  Our experience tells us that most people do not learn well this way

Our style of teaching is great for all ages.  We find more mature sailors really appreciate our individual tuition which can be adapted to their fitness and previous experience.  Children also react well since they are in a safe environment (the instructor is always onboard to help) which helps them to relax and learn.  For more information please see our Teaching Philosophy and how we go about Teaching Children.

"Thanks for what was possibly our best holiday ever!

We all thoroughly enjoyed learning to sail and can't believe how much we learnt in a week thanks to your patience and good humour.  It was great to find something that we could all enjoy doing together and that gave us such a sense of achievement.

We are so hooked now that two days after getting back we have found a local sailing club!"

Private Tuition
All of our lessons and courses are private which means we can take them at your pace.  Whether you are a complete beginner or an intermediate sailor we can offer tailor-made tuition to cover exactly what you want.  We can focus on improving certain techniques or work through a set programme.
You can take a single lesson or a course of lessons.  Lessons are normally 2 hours long and they can be scheduled whenever you want.

We try and keep the lessons fun for the kids by, for example, sailing to an Island, playing tag or racing after ducks (plastic ones!).  We use record sheets throughout all our courses so that you can track your progress; we also find this helps to keep the youngsters focused.

Courses
We offer three course levels for adults (Learn to Sail and Levels 1 & 2) and four levels for youngsters (Stages 1-4).  All courses are practically based and any theory required is usually carried out on the water.  Children can learn alongside adults as the material covered is basically the same.  We can also teach people of different levels at the same time.  So if some people in your family or group are more experienced than the others, don't worry, you can still learn to sail together.  Our courses follow the RYA syllabus.

Coaching Sessions
Our coaching sessions are a great option if  you haven't been out on the water for a while and want to brush up your skills before renting a boat or just need to spend some time in the water to increase your confidence.  We also offer Advanced Sailing tuition via coaching sessions which can include a wide variety of subjects such as using the trapeze or spinnaker or enable you to sharpen up your racing skills.
